Course Assistant

Exsportise runs residential English language summer courses combined with specialist activities for 9-17 year olds. Our programmes allow students to improve their practical and spoken English by attending structured English lessons as well as engaging in an activity of their choice. The specialist activities offered are: Tennis, Golf, Arsenal Football Development, Hockey, Rugby, Basketball, Horse Riding, Music and Dance.

All staff are expected to provide an acceptable high standard of language learning opportunities to all students through EFL lessons, specialist activities, social and cultural exposure.

Exsportise has been awarded EL Gazette “Centre of Excellence” status based on British Council Inspectors publishable statements.

All duties are subject to change at the discretion of the Recruitment Manager.


Main Roles:

  • To assist a specific department with the day-to-day running of the programme.
  • To assist with the evening events programme which is organised and run by the Events Managers
  • To supervise students on weekend excursions and assist with student arrivals and departures at airports / Eurostar station
  • To assist with looking after all Exsportise students, their wellbeing and happiness throughout their stay at camp.
  • To carry out mealtime supervision, wake-up and bedtime duties on a rota basis, which includes being responsible for the bed and fire registers.
  • Course Assistants will be allocated to a specific department with additional roles:

Admin / Events Assistant

  • To support the Administrators and Events Managers with duties such as locating any “missing” students, taking photos of activities, printing off form and creating notices, assisting with evening event preparation etc.
  • To manage student feedback (distribution and analysis of feedback questionnaires) usually on a Wednesday of each week.
  • To assist with any administrative duties required.

EFL Course Assistant

  • To assist the Director of Studies and EFL Administrator with student registers and student feedback (distribution and analysis of feedback questionnaires)
  • To ensure student entrance scores are recorded and end of week EFL reports and certificates are completed for all students and are added to students’ notebooks to take home with them
  • To ensure EFL Google drive is kept-up-to date with registers, rotas, students reports for Head Office to access
  • To supervise students during breaks between English classes

Music Course Assistant

  • To assist with warm-up activities
  • To be the link between music, the office and evening events
  • To run errands including making photocopies, taking photos and videos of performances
  • To assist with the setting up and taking down of equipment for sessions and concerts, including all instruments, amplifiers, speakers, microphones and including running cables for power and sound transmission.
  • To assist with the recording of sessions and concerts as well as taking photos and ensuring recordings are uploaded to Google drive by the end of each week for Head Office to access.
  • To supervise students during break times

Sports Course Assistant

  • To assist with warm-up, stretching and cool-down of the group
  • To assist with setting up of exercises
  • To assist Specialist Option Coaches with the implementing of their coaching plan as agreed with the Head Coach.
  • To take photos and videos of coaching sessions when required.
  • To supervise students during break times

Horse Riding Course Assistant

  • To understand the horse riding programme, as described in all Exsportise literature and ensure that this programme is correctly delivered to a high standard.
  • To provide any and all assistance to the contracted stables
  • To ensure student safety and wellbeing whilst off-site, including taking responsibility for student discipline.
  • To ensure that any transport arrangements are made to take students to and from the stables (communicate with Administrators).

Lifeguard Course Assistant

  • To ensure the safety of all participants in the daily swimming sessions
  • To ensure only students with swim consent and are able to swim enter the pool. If necessary carry out swim test.
  • To ensure that all safety and operating procedures relating to the swimming pool are adhered to at all times, including covering and uncovering the pool
  • To assist with other departments as required such as Music, Sports, EFL, Admin or Events.

Additional Duties:

  • To be an active presence in the boarding houses outside of timetabled sessions (e.g. coaching sessions/ lessons/ evening entertainment).
  • Together with all staff to monitor meal times to ensure students are in attendance, are eating well and are integrating well with other students.
  • To attend daily staff meetings
  • To follow guideline as outlined in the Staff Handbook and as explained by the Centre Manager.
  • To help set up / pack up camp as required
  • To carry out any other reasonable duties


Personal Specification:

  • Approachable nature and trustworthy
  • Flexible and adaptable approach to working hours
  • Enthusiastic and friendly
  • Professionalism: being of smart appearance appropriate to the role and using appropriate language
  • Experience in working with children is preferred but not essential
  • Pastoral / Welfare experience and first aid qualification desirable
  • Sports coaching / music tuition qualifications preferred but not essential
  • Sports coaching / music tuition qualifications desirable (for Music and Sports Course Assistant)
  • Extensive experience in horse riding and in stables (for Horse Riding Course Assistant)
  • Current UK National Pool Lifeguarding Qualification (NPQL) (for Lifeguard Course Assistant)


Days Off/Time Off:

  • All rotas and days off are arranged by the Centre Manager. Any issues or changes regarding the rota and/or days off must be approved by the Centre Manager.
  • You are entitled to one 24-hour period off per week.
  • You are entitled to the equivalent of one shift off each day from Monday to Friday (shifts are: wake-up – lunch, lunch – dinner, dinner – bedtime)
  • You will be asked to sign the 48 hour working week opt-out agreement
  • Due to the nature of the weekend activities (transfers and excursions), you are required to work all three shifts on these days
